Broken but not out

I had a nice time in New Zealand recently. We popped over to Queenstown to do some snowboarding before the end of the season. I was having a nice time getting reacquainted with my snow board, until the end of the second day. I fell and broke my arm. Right near the top of my arm so it’s fairly useless and just hangs there in a sling.

I got medical attention very quickly so the pain was eased a bit before the long ride down the mountain to the hospital. But I had a complication with some muscle getting trapped in my fracture so I had to be shipped off the next day to a bigger hospital. Long story short, the muscle untangled itself when I was given anaesthetic and a muscle relaxant. So it was all happy times when I was able to go back to our holiday apartment and spend some time on the couch with magazines and the beautiful views of the lake and mountains.

Now I’m home, off work and it’s week three. It is still painful, the bones do still move around a bit but it feels better than it did in the first week. Week four, the half way mark in bone healing, is when the bones start to knit together so I am looking forward to that. Week 4 is also when I’m hoping to go back to work, but not sure how I’ll be able to squeeze in my hour (or 2, or 3) nap time I’ve been having everyday. Healing takes a lot of energy out of you. I feel like a growing teen again!

Plus, week 4 (Thursday) is when I head off to Melbourne to attend a 5 day class with Loren Stump. I am really looking forward to it but I am really sad that I most likely won’t be able to participate in the class – just observe. On the bright side, maybe I’ll get all sorts of inspiration while I’m there. I’ll definitely take my sketch book along.

In the meantime, as you may have noticed I’ve been slowly working on my website. There’s still more work to do so sorry to leave you in the middle of a construction zone. Go take a look at a new necklace I’ve been working on in my portfolio posts. It’s called White. Hope you like it.

White

I’ve been keeping quiet for a while now while I dabbled in this new white series. I started making White just after I got back from Melbourne in May. Melbourne is such an inspiring place for me, so when I came back home my head was filled with so much colour and shapes that I couldn’t quieten my head and focus on one thing. I think I freaked out with all the noise in my head that I just retaliated and picked up some white glass to help me meditate for a while. And White was born. These beads are hollow and light to hold and I’ve been wearing one like this in the picture and have received compliments while wearing it, so I feel I am on a good thing here.

Since White has been made, I have been experimenting further in this range using colour, and I wish I had the fruits of my experiments to share here today, but I have broken my arm and am unable to complete the pieces. Sigh! And while incapacitated I have been struck with so many more design ideas! So it’s frustrating to not be able to make any of these ideas for a while. But I am drawing all the ideas down in my sketch book so I won’t forget them.

In the end, I am happy with White and I can’t wait to show you the other pieces!

I’m up to week 3 of my healing – 5 more weeks to go.
